About the Artist

James Jennings Sheeran (1931-2008) — a contemporary American artist, the creator of an important ultramodern tendency – Sculptured Canvas – in which an abstract silhouette of wood and canvas is painted with delicate shadings to render a multi-colored, multi-tiered image. His creations are a synthesis of sculpture, woodcraft, design, architecture and coloration. HIs construction, cut from luan wood and intensified by superstructures of cubes, pyramids, ovals and vaulted forms, all tightly covered with canvas to achieve a sculptured effect, can be perceived as figural allusions, yet there is a distinct futuristic fixation to all his designs.
Sheeran’s work has been exhibited worldwide: at the Gallery Cernuschi in Paris and Tokyo; the Time-Life Memorial Collection in New York, the Contemporary American Showing in Paris, the First National Bank in Chicago, Georgetown University, The Sheraton Corporation, Pepsico, the Principality of Monaco Consulate and Litton Industries.
Sheeran was awarded the Prix de I’Originalite in Paris.
There is Romance and Beauty and Truth in his work; and always Passion and Expectation.
Palm Beach Society Gallery features modern abstract art with the theme—“Society Games - An Artistic Expose.” Some 30 sculptured canvases are presented in a collection depicting High Society—its movements, modes and motivations—in a major exhibition at 240 Worth Avenue in Palm Beach.
